Day To Day Life

Do you have a general pattern to your day? A routine? Most people do. I have the general routine of getting up, walking the dogs outside, making my morning coffee, etc. In 1 Peter 4 we are given some instruction and wisdom about what our Christian routine should include. Much like a doctor my give you instruction on living a healthy life. 1 Peter 4 gives us instruction on how to live a spirit filled life.

When we decide to become a Christian and live in relationship with Jesus we turn away from sinful behaviors. Or as 1 Peter 4:2-3 says

“As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry”

So what is he saying exactly? Do not live a life filled with excessive indulgence, lust, getting drunk, attending wild parties, conducting violence, and idolizing/worshiping worldly things such as money, false religious, etc.

When I was like 4 or 5 years old my mother took my brother and I to Disney World along with my cousins and uncle. She says my brother in I spent the whole trip asking to buy toys and other goodies. We hardly even showed much interest in Disney World. We want to excessively buy things. She had taken us on this amazing trip and we missed the wonder of Disney World because our eyes were drawn to the wrong things.

We often do is in our Christian walks. We continue to seek after and do the wrong things. In doing so we are no different than non- believers. So what should we be doing? What is the routine we should integrate into our lives to help us live by the spirit?

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen” 1 Peter 4:7-11 NIV

Let’s summarize the instructions above:

1. Be alert, sober minded, and pray. 2. Love each other above all. 3. Offer hospitality. 4. Use your gifts to serve others. 5. Speak Gods words and watch your tongue. 6. Serve with Gods strength. (Ie let God equip you to the tasks he has for you

How well are you integrating the above into your routine or is your routine including things that lead to disaster and death?
