Oh boy this life is so incredibly confusing, difficult and challenging to navigate. Why is it so hard? Often it is difficult because we hear so many different messages. We hear this. Then we hear that. Someone says this. The other says that. My goodness all these mixed messages give me a headache. And I do not know about you but I can be a bit of a scatter brain at times. Thus all these mixed messages go flying around in my head making me crazy. Similarly I am a thinker, I will ruminate on things for years. Let me repeat that, YEARs. And more importantly I can’t make it stop. It is both a gift and a curse. It is often very challenging to know what the real truth is. This is the challenge we often face, what is the truth?
Fortunately I am not the only person to struggle with this problem. For the Bible talks about this issue many times. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. God is the ultimate truth. Every human understanding of God is limited. We through Jesus get a glimpse at the truth but ultimately our human minds are not even able to comprehend the full truth. But one truth is certain. Jesus is the only means to our salvation.
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.” 1 John 4:1-6
We hear so many messages in today’s world. Some of them are the truth. Many of them are not. It is hard, confusing and sometimes exhausting to navigate. But one thing is certain Jesus Christ is our lord and savior. He is the truth. Our only way to receive his life, salvation and redemption is to accept him. Part of accepting Jesus means acknowledge our need for him. Acknowledge we are a sinner so we can repent and turn from our sinful ways. The other part is to be baptized thus receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is the truth. I am uncertain of many things in life but one truth I know without a doubt, Jesus is the only real savior in this world.
