A House of God

When you think of church, when you think of God’s house what comes to mind? Do you think of singing, preachers talking at you and fun activities? Do you think of bible study and friendships? What do you think of? What picture comes to mind?

What did Jesus say about God’s temple? When Jesus visited the temple and saw it had become a place of business he overturned the tables and drove out the people. He was angry. What did he tell them? Jesus said “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations.” Mark 11:17

When you think of church do you think of a house of prayer? I have to admit, the churches I have been a part of include prayer but it is a rather small part compared to all the other parts. Furthermore what makes a church a house of prayer? Ultimately it is not the building, it is not even the pastor or the leadership. It is the people. It is the intention and heart inside the people who attend.

To me a church is supposed to be a meeting of people with a heart of prayer. A heart seeking God. A heart yearning for Jesus. It is not a building. It is not even music. It is not even the sermon. The church is anything that has 2 or more gathered in Jesus name with a heart of prayer. Is this how you view church? Is this what you feel when you go to church? Is this the image that comes to mind when you think of God’s house? Furthermore what would it be like for each of our homes to be God’s house? What would it be like for each of our homes to be a house of prayer? What if you were part of church every day?

Is your home a house of God? Is your church a house of prayer? Is your heart in the right place? If not ask Jesus to change it, he won’t disappoint. Amen.
