Unfortunately due to the move I do not have any new artwork to post but I decided to share this little bit of mind wondering regardless.
As a young Christian I did not understand what denominations meant. I had a girl ask me what religion I was and I told her I was a Christian. She answer, “no I mean are you baptist, catholic or Methodist.” I looked at her dumbfounded and self-conscious. I did not know what I was, I just knew that Christ was my savor.
As I grew older and came into contact with more believers I grew to understand the concept of denominations and how they developed. Furthermore I visited numerous churches and denominations. I came to understand the difference and similarities. There is a certain need for Christians to form groups and we form group based on ways of interacting with others, worshiping god and interpreting scripture.
Groups are needed in order to effectively minister but for some reason we as Human like to think our way of doing things is the absolute correct and only way. It is this pride and thinking “I’m right and your wrong,” that leads to division and conflict.
I have done a lot of thinking over the years on this issue. I myself do not claim a denomination. I claim Christianity. I think each denomination has its own uniqueness and it is not for me to judge whether they are correct in every way. God is the judge not humans. I think it unlikely that any human other than Jesus has it all absolutely correct.
So to me I do not care about our difference, I care about the only thing that truly matters, Jesus Christ and building his kingdom. We need to form groups in order to function and each group will have differences. Instead of arguing about who’s correct we should look at what we all have in common so that we can work together.
I kind of think of denomination as different personalities types. No personality is perfect, they each have there strengths and weaknesses. Each personality has its own way of doings things and they all should be working for God’s kingdom. Every church, every denomination should have Jesus as its head. So if Jesus is at the head of every church and denomination why are we divided? Maybe the problem is we have an identity problem.
“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” Colossians 1:17-20
