It’s A Fake…

My husband and I have had repeated discussions over the years our dreams and desires. What the world teaches us and what God teaches us is very different. It is sometimes challenging to break down old false beliefs and accept Gods view. Furthermore we are surrounded by the worlds view on all sides and sometime it is so hard to break free in order to see things as God sees them.

My husband has wrestled with the desire for a nice house, stability where he has a comfortable life working as a professor and he can influence college students in a positive way. He has asked “what is wrong with that.” Sometimes it is hard to respond. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that picture. What is wrong is the heart behind the picture.

What do I mean by this? Well, what God wants from us is to lay all of ourselves at his feet and follow him. So I tell my husband to lay all he is, talents, skills and money at God’s feet. If God then leads him down a road that brings him to a nice house and a successful job as a professor then so be it. If God leads him down a road to doing mission work out of a hut in Africa, then so be it.

“As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.” Mark 1:16-20

The key is the heart. We are all called to lay all we have at the feet of Jesus and follow him. We must trust him and accept the road he leads us to with joy and delight. It is a little scary if you have never done this but the truth is that it is an adventure that never becomes dull and will never disappoint.

So to those who find themselves unable to lay all that you are at Jesus’s feet, I pray that God will give you the courage, strength and trust to let go. To those who have already given everything they have, I pray for God’s endurance, joy, delight during the challenging times and may you rest in him each day. And to all, may we be a church that breaks down the false teaching of this world and be God’s hands, feet and voice to the world. Amen.
